Dear Friends,

you are cordially invited to join us for:

albb lounge
a discussion with visiting artist, Karla Sachse
remembering beyond borders –
those that disappeared
those who we don't forget
that which we build new

Karla Sachse has been living and working as an artist in (the former) East Berlin since 1969. Her work dedicated to public spaces reflects the difficult process of remembering. In this albb lounge, she will present objects, rooms and memorial signs developed after the fall of the Berlin Wall, discussing the grapplings of herself and other artists with the new German reality. She would then like to open up the discussion to explore public memory and political change with artists and others living in Vietnam.

Karla Sachse was born in 1950 in Zschopau, East Germany. She received her PhD from Humboldt University, Berlin in 1977 and since 1982 has been active in exhibitions, mailart, street events, visual poetry, installations and language rooms; curatorial and teaching work; projects and signs for public spaces, such as rabbit's field for a former checkpoint along the Berlin wall.

Numerous projects in international collaboration include Alvar Aalto Museum, Jyväskylä, Finland and the Henry-Moore-Institute, Leeds, UK, workshops and exhibitions in Thailand and India, and NRLA in Glasgow, February 2007. This is her first visit to Vietnam, where she recently presented a talk on the same subject at Hanoi Goethe Institut.

Discussion between Karla Sachse and audience members is warmly encouraged.

This lounge will be presented at the newly-re-opened Himiko Visual Cafe. Please see map attached.
